What I like: combination of him being smart as well as clueless; Caring nature towards his family specifically Himawari; He is relatable to modern kids.
BACKGROUND AND PERSONAL THOUGHTS
Era of new generation of Ninjas has begun after the so-called end of Naruto's epoch; Boruto, the first child of Naruto Uzumaki and Hinata Hyuga is a prodigy but with no resolve or motivation to become a Ninja. It is difficult to cope up with the needs when your dad is a legend. Son of Uzumaki Naruto is neither a demon cursed nor a born loser but yes, like father like son he also is a hyperactive bold Ninja. He was raised with everything a boy of his age could ask for, until the day his dad became Hokage and were proffered with the pile of work and couldn't spend much time with their family.
He has never felt the true pain or loneliness which generally every character of original Naruto series had faced but instead his life is mostly smooth going compared to Naruto of his age. We have had been knowing Uzumaki Naruto for about 15 years so it's common for anyone if a newborn someone swiftly erupts and starts insulting the one we admired and witnessed how much struggle he had been through to achieve a title of his dream. Boruto cuss his dad for him being Hokage and not disburse his valuable time to his family because unlike Naruto he has always been with his parents and also had numerous people who cherished him from the day he was born, he has never been in the misma of pure loneliness and no acknowledgement from the people who surrounds him. Though he has indefinite quality talent in him, intelligence and significantly good in exercising any jutsu. But he still lacks the potential to be a hero which Naruto is, perhaps because he haven't faced any tough opponent alone yet to smell the misma of defeat and pain of losing someone prominent of his life. He is still a kid who is Ninja for fun, just going along with the flow in the hope of recognition of his father. He needs to learn what is it to be a Ninja but yes, simultaneously, I think that he has yet not got the episode of his resolve, that only is required then he'll indeed fly with flying colors, might even surpass Naruto because he yet has to unlock many prowess, reason and still he is stronger than Naruto of his age. But foremost he gotta learn the lessons of teamwork and the importance of shinobi which perhaps Kakashi and Sasuke will teach.
PERSONALITY
As for his nature, he is quite a cheerful personality with a simple mind who never backs down on to help anyone who is in need. Sometimes i also pair him with sasuke as he is quite good with anything he do, perhaps he got that quality from Hinata; but yes he isn't following the path of his dad and is following his own will unlike Naruto, he doesn't want to be a Hokage instead he admires Uchiha Sasuke and wants to be like him. He believes in fighting to his last breath and not sitting and commanding others which is a task of any Kage. Even though he doesn't want to be like his father, he still always seem to look for attention of his father to prove himself which sometimes get annoying to watch and spoils his own image as he could even fall to cheat to get the acknowledgement. At the same time the thing i like most from his nature is the care for his family especially his sister, Himawari; he can never see Himawari hurt in anyway, in spite he value her more than himself for example, when Naruto because of work load couldn't appear in Boruto's birthday he wasn't angry about it but when Naruto disappeared in Himawari's birthday he yes was very disappointed on him. Friends of his also likes to be around him perhaps because he is simple minded but also could act smart at time, he is good in making valid decisions too as it could be seen in chunin exams and other a few missions. He is a tad arrogant of his abilities, perhaps because till now he hasn't faced any grave danger or a rival or tough enemy which is making him a bit overconfident of his abilities which isn't good at all because it may lead him to uncertainty in assuming the capabilities of some strong opponent which he will definitely face in future and It must need to cured in near future seasons.
Boruto in an upcoming hero, his current personality isn't very pleasing, accommodated with numerous flaws and contradicting to the actual qualities of acknowledged shinobi, such as not taking things seriously and also missing a sole cause of why he want to be a shinobi because right now he is just hanging out with his friends. But yes, unlike Naruto he is quite good in studies and also not a loser of academy instead he is one of the top notch cadets, loaded with confidence and thinks he could execute everything alone, which is definitely wrong. He yes is a kid of Hokage and has got all the pleasures of being one, but he never brags about it to anyone and wants to be known for his own doings, he is alike to konohamaru from original Naruto series, his presence too is shadowed by the seventh Hokage. Overall i think he has many flaws but also inherit significant talent which definitely will bloom his personality as a shinobi in future.
ABILITIES
As for his abilities, I'd say he is a lot stronger than Naruto or even sasuke when they were at his age. He could already run on liquid when being in academy, he is a bit like Kakashi in that context as Kakashi too was regarded as genius kid, perhaps that is the reason Kakashi himself wanted to test Boruto in an episode and also gave a rather harsh compliment because of him being highly confident. He is already known to his ninjutsu type, which is lightning and has developed various variants of his technique using lightning and water splash, which is a rather a difficult task to pull off. He has even mastered shadow clone jutsu's line and combination attack; also is able to balance chakra almost perfectly in academy days only. That compiles him being exceeding the slab to become a chunin also, It was already revealed that he is exceeding genin or might even chunin level at the rank of a new genin. He yes was not able to master Rasengan but found a variant of its and has almost mastered it, which may happen to be equivalent to a normal rasengan and will yes prove to be handy in mission.
Also he even qualified to be Sasuke as his mentor and because he wants to be just like him, he respects and will learn a lot from him, perhaps it may happen that Sasuke will take him in to a venture of training just like Jiraya did it with Naruto; and most importantly, all of that he learned was after being lazy and not having a definite resolve on why he wants to be a shinobi. He definitely yes is a prodigy but in the process, he yet has a lot to learn and have many prowess to unlock such as his right eye that is "jougan" prowers of it is still unrevealed but it isn't a regular Byakugan, that is sure. It's just my own assumption but it may happen that we might witness something as strong as Kagura's eye because similarity in appearance in both his eye and that of Kagura's seems common to me, moreover Boruto has a blood of Hyuga and of Naruto who happens to sustain the chakra of Shinobi God but that's only the assumption and is still unknown. but it was yes, definitely qualifying to be peril to Ōtsutsuki clan in the aftermath of protecting Naruto in chunin exams.
OVERALL THOUGHTS
I have already witnessed too much hate for Boruto but we gotta accept him as he is because he can't be just like Naruto and if he were just like him then the show will automatically lose it charm and perhaps Sarada may take a lead as protagonist but instead right now he is finding his own path to run on, own future to grab, and most of all he is yet to hone his own true Ninja way. It is not like that i don't like current Boruto, it's just he isn't complete yet, having many flaws to concur and many achievements to achieve. In fact it's quite fun to watch a relatable character like Boruto. Artist created him whilst considering the growing society where we live in; here, unlike Naruto we could easily relate ourselves with Boruto, the problems he is facing to get recognized by his father in a busy life is very genuine but yes, it is a long series and the character development of his is a tad slow but is definite; but these facts aside, he has a future ahead which surely will bloom, his abilities as well as his personality, and will also find a reason to fight because, it's just a beginning and clans such as Ōtsutsuki is waiting for him and i can't wait to see how the cool Boruto of ours will turn out. He may yes be talented but that may not be sufficient unless he has a resolve and it most of the time comes after a true pain so, to think that Boruto is going to change is genuine as in episode one only he said that he was a brat earlier.
